The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Nick Cage with long hair again

Amazing movie, The Sorcerer's Apprentice will blow your mind when you'll experience it on your 3DTV. The story is not that important (or original) but the 3D effects are awesome. The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a Disney production so the fun is guaranteed, but again, shut your brain off, or should I say, be open-minded, and just enjoy the special effects and the here and there comical moments in the film.
Nicolas Cage is Balthazar Blake, a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
I like Nicolas Cage with long hair (not) but he has the acting experience, so this movie is not a complete waste, the budget for this movie (180 mil) proves this.
I don't know if I'll go in my IMAX theater to see this, but I will definitely wait for the Bluray 3D version for my brand new 3DTV Samsung. The movie will be out July 14, 2010.

That's the big question: what you need to do and buy to have your own 3D TV set and to be able to experience 3D content in your home?
I received a lot of questions like this one in the past weeks. Can I use the 3D glasses from the IMAX Theater? Can I make my normal HDTV show 3D images on my glasses? Where do I get the 3D content? and so on.
So here are the answers to all these questions. this is what you need to have for a 3D home theater system:
A 3D Display can be a 3D HDTV, a computer or a 3D projector. What is so special about these 3D displays? They have a higher processing power than older displays, as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect. So older HDTV models won't be capable of displaying 3D technology because they are not powerful enough and don't have the required 3D technical specs. That means you have to buy a new HDTV or projector. Here are some suggestions:
A special pair of 3D glasses is needed to experience 3D. Unfortunately the glasses should be of the same brand as your display. There are two major technologies for 3D glasses:
- Active Glasses
- Passive polarized Glasses
Buy a Blu-Ray Player with the 3D logo, it's future safe. your old blu-ray player might be able to play 3D content after a firmware update, but that probably won't be always the case.

Until now, those whe own a Playstation 3, consider yourself very lucky. Sony plans to update the firmware in the near future, to make all Playstation 3 models and their integrated blu-ray player compatible with the 3D technology. This applies to both 3D games and 3D movies.
3D TV channels will slowly populate the television networks. This step will provide the reach and popularity that 3D needs in the moment. The migration will be swift, because if you already own a HDMI-capable cable box, you'll be able to access the new 3D TV channels with only a firmware update on your box.
The World Cup 2010 will be the first major sport event broadcast in 3D.
All the major TV networks have plans to start 3D channels.

The 3D technology from Samsung is already out there, you can have it your living room.

A 3D LED HDTV I will definitely buy – the price is still OK – under 1999 $ for a 40’’ screen. This TV set comes only with a 3D Ready technology that means you will still need the 3D active glasses and a 3D Blu-ray Player. When there will be enough TV channels that broadcast 3D content you will need only the Samsung 3D glasses to view it.

Sony BRAVIA HX800 & HX900 – 3D-Ready TVs

The brand new Sony BRAVIA HX800 & HX900 Series will be available shortly and they will provide a full HD 3D ready technology. What 3D Ready means? It’s easy, the 3D technology is there, but you need to buy the 3D emitter and the 3D glasses separately in order to experience 3D viewing fully.The HX800 and HX900 HDTVs are available in 40’’, 46’’ and 54,5’’ sizes. The BRAVIA Sets support the Motionflow PRO 240Hz technology for smooth motion, they have a dynamic Edge LED backlight, a ready Wi-Fi adapter and of course a full HD 1080p resolution.
No word on the price for these 3D Ready TVs, but if you feel unsure about the ready-ness you can go all the way with the full HD 3D Sony Bravia LX900 Series.
Experience 3DTV yourself in your nearest Sony Style. And a word of advice, if you plan on buying a game console, go with Playstation 3, the PS 3 next firmware updates will fully support 3D gaming and 3D playback.
Sony Bravia LX900 HDTV– full HD 3D technology

Sony plans shortly (summer 2010) to sell full HD 3D HDTVs – that will be the Sony Bravia LX900 Series.
This Sony Bravia TV set will be available in 52’’ and 60’’ sizes. Only a few technical specs are known:
- Full HD 1080p resolution
- Edge LED Backlighting
- Built-in Wi-Fi (you’ll still need the Wireless router and internet connection)
- Integrated Full HD 3D technology.
The Sony LX900 television set package includes the 3D transmitter and the Active Shutter 3D Glasses, so you’ll get 3D viewing out of the box.
The active shutter 3D glasses receive two separate left and right images, through infrared. These images are synchronized with your Sony Bravia HDTV in full HD. The 3D effect is amazingly real.
The Sony 3D HDTV can still show 2D content. Using the remote’s 3D activation button, you can easily switch between 2D and 3D.
Important to know, old Bravia Series are not compatible with 3D TV. Only LX900, and additionally HX900 and HX800 HDTVs support the 3D technology. The good news is, if you own a Playstation 3, you will be able to watch 3D content, of course after you will update your PS 3 firmware. So you’ll be able to download 3D games, 3D streaming content and play 3D Blu-ray discs.
The price plans are not yet available, but you can experience the Sony Bravia LX900 HDTV in your local Sony Style Store.
Robin Hood 3D Blu-Ray Russell Crowe is worth the trouble

Slowly slowly we get to experience more and more blu-ray movies also in 3D edition. Suddenly the 2D images don't make the same impact , are kind of boring.
there were a lot of rumors about a second Gladiator movie, of course noone believed possible, because after all the hero played by Russell Crowe died in the end.
But the director Ridley Scott found a solution after all. a new story , a new hero: Robin Hood. Personally, I have seen at least 10 versions of the Robin Hood legends so I was quite skeptical about the success of a new Robin Hood movie. But of course we can't underestimate Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott. They can recreate and rewrite the story, that you'll forget everything and you start enjoying the great filmmaking and acting of this great team.
Ridley Scott's version is very ambitious. The film begins with Richard the Lion Heart's siege of the Castle Chaulus Chabral in Normandy. This is where we meet Crowe's Robin Longstride, a skilled archer, who has followed King Richard into battle for many years. The king looks for an honest man and is confronted with Longstride who has been running a game of chance and is accused by Little John of cheating. Robin is not cheating but, ironically, his honest answers to the king land him and his companions shackled.
The death of King Richard allows Robin and his companions to escape and flee back home. Along the way, they run across a party led by Robert Loxley retuning the crown back to England. Loxley has been attacked by an English nobleman named Godfrey (magnificently played by Mark Strong) who is conspiring with King Philip of France to invade England. Loxley is mortally wounded but Robin and his companions rout Godfrey and his men. The dying Loxley asks Robin to return his sword to his father. Not being a nobleman, Robin impersonates Loxley and returns the crown to the hands to Prince John.
The story develops with Robin and his men going to Nottingham where Robin is, conveniently, asked by Sir Walter Loxley (Max von Sydow) to pretend to be his son in order to preserve the household for his daughter-in-law Marion (Cate Blanchett). The story centers on stopping Godfry and the intended invasion of England by King Philip. A sub-plot concerns the rights of Englishmen centered on a documents of rights that Robin's father (long ago executed) was instrumental in conceiving.
Sit back and relax, enjoy the movie. I read some other reviews, both good and not so good. Forget all that. Just watch the movie. And if you see it in your 3D environment...
